RRIF minimum withdrawals: table and calculator

Updated October 17, 2026 · Legislated factors

An RRSP must be converted, usually to a RRIF, by December 31 of the year you turn 71. From the following year a minimum percentage of the RRIF must come out every year, set by your age on January 1. Before 71 the factor is 1 ÷ (90 − age).

You can choose to base the minimum on a younger spouse's age, which lowers it. You can always withdraw more than the minimum.

How RRIF withdrawals are taxed

RRIF withdrawals are taxable income. They count toward the OAS clawback and reduce GIS. Withholding tax applies only to amounts above the minimum, but the whole withdrawal is taxed when you file. From 65, RRIF income can qualify for the pension income credit and pension income splitting with a spouse.
